I've just replaced my bent right rear strut rod. (The bushings were shot anyway!) Any suggestion for the alignment seting till I can get it to a shop for a eal alignment?
Use a piece of lumber(2x2 or 2x4) cut it to fit inside the outer lip of the wheel. Hold the lumber vertical against the wheel then hold a level vertical on the lumber. The wheel should lean in at the top 0 - 1/8". This is to be checked after the car is on the ground and rolled back and forth in and out of the garage to settle the rear suspension. No need for an alignment.
Start out in a nice level space.
Turns out that if you take the measurements 14 3/8" apart, 1/4" exactly equals one degree. So you have a 15" wheel. Close enough. Get a small level. If you set the camber so that the rear wheel tips in at the top by 1/8", you will have set the rear wheel camber to 1/2 degree negative.
A significant change in rear camber will affect the ride height. Sometimes you need to go back and forth to get everything dead nuts.
Starting from a level floor, assuming you are measuring 1/2" in at the wheel, then your camber setting is 2 degrees negative! Ouch!
You will burn off the insides of both rear tires in not too many miles.
I have a level which I'm putting vertically against the sidewall of the tire. If it's touching the lower sidewall, the level is 1/2" out from the upper sidewall.

The level should be placed on the upper and lower parts of the rim, not the tire. If your level is too long, cut a 2X4 piece of wood and attach it to the level so that it fits on the rim only.
