The bolt the retains the rear of the consol to the luggage area bulkhead. How is the easiest way to remove?

You must remove the rear storage compartment assembly, then the center compartment pulls out.... you'll find the head of the bolt in the middle.. A real PITA if you ask me.

That's what I was afraid of. Another corvette part that takes twice as long as it should.

Thank you Wilcox

You DO NOT have to remove the storage compartments...you only have to remove the tray in the right-side compartment. Then, use a 1/4" drive ratchet wrench with a 7/16" socket (it could be a 3/8" socket, but I think not) to reach in with your left hand...down through that right side compartment and you can place the socket on the bolt head with no problem.

Once you remove that bolt, immediately go cut the head off of it and round off the shank head and put a nut on the threaded end. When you want to reassemble the E-brake housing, screw the stud into the e-brake housing frame so that there is an inch or more of the stud sticking out. Install the 'lock' nut you added on the inside end of the stud and lock it down, so that it can't vibrate out. Now, all you have to do is stick the stud through the hole in the rear bulkhead, drop the e-brake housing into place and put the side screws in it. Never again! for that blasted bolt.

Just a thought, but you may also want to peel the carpet up a little and check those 2 rivets directly under that bolt. Chances are good that they arent doing anything anymore and are loose. I just drilled mine out last week and replaced them with some small nuts and bolts. It tightend that area up real nice.
