I put out a thread on how fire extinguishers were being mounted and decided to build my own. I think I will flip the strap with the latch 180 and that will let me turn the extinguisher so the handle is inboard toward the console. Otherwise it came out ok. The extinguisher is only 1lb so I believe I will do another one on the passenger side. Here are some pics.
Very nice, you do neat work!! I have collected materials to make my own; did the red extinguisher bracket come with your extinguisher? I can't seem to find one like that, only plastic straps.

Is 1lb a typo? My 2 1/2 pound Halotron I actually weighs 4 pounds 13 ounces. How much fire fighting capabilities do you get in a 1 pound total package?

The Unit I bought is an H3R P/N MX100R. It did come with the red bracket. You can get these in chrome or black also. I picked this one up at a 4X4 place here in the city. Thanks for the kudos!

Good question 69 Chevy. It is described as a 1LB extinguisher. This is one reason I think I will do a twin on the passenger side. I just liked the small compact size. My 72 is a convertible so putting it in the back and making sure there is room when the top is folded down and still acccessible at this point concerned me. Plus I would have to drill holes in the tub to mount it back there. This way the holes that were drilled are in the seat frame and the bracket can be removed without worrying about what to do with the holes.
Like it. Jrtmech, can you provide bracket dimensions for all surfaces? Width of bracket (Like distance across seat),then extiguisher mounting surface front to back, height up, the width of flange mounted to seat.
I have '72 vert as well and keep saying I need to mount any access extinguisher as well. Nice thinking. Never thought of the seat.
I don't have a pic of mine but it is located in the same place - in front of the passenger seat. Mine is on a bracket mounted via the seat bolts so it is solid to the floor. Also, the 1lb designation is probably got to do with the fire extinguisher content not total weight. Nice work!

While this is a good idea, and I plan to make one like it (will YOU make a few for us members?) one MUST be aware of the extinguisher is in a peculiar place during an accident. Please consider this before you install one. What would a frontal impact do? How would an extinguisher mounted here fare with your body during an accident. Just food for thought. I still like the idea.

Ok keep in mind that this bracket is mounted to the seat frame. It moves with the seat so you can adjust the seat fore and aft. My wife drives the car as much as I do so the seat needs to be adjustable. This is a basic Z channell design. 7" wide, the flat that the screws go through into the seat frame is 1", the vertical flat is 1 7/16" and the flat that the bracket mounts to is 3 1/2". The screws that I used are a self tapping screw that is approximately 3/16 in diameter.
I possibly could bend a few up if guys are really interested.
