Greetings!! my friends 1969 corvette reverse shifter is not locking. Instead goes right into reverse without unlocking the reverse lever. Can anyone please help us to why this is occuring? ( gears 1-4) are shifting nice, so its not the clutch. Thanks in advance
If the reverse lockout isnt working its a shifter issue.
Have you or your friend unscrewed the shifter ball and taken a look at whats inside?
If the pin in the center of the shifter handle is missing or broken, then the reverse lockout wouldnt work.
Is the spring installed correctly?
I goes on top and pushes the lockout rod down.
If the rod doesn't reach bottom it won't prevent the shifter from moving through the reverse lockout gate.

Whenever people ask this type of question I.E. "My (fill in the blank) doesn't work, how do I fix it?" The first thing I always ask is: did it ever work, in your experience? Or has it always not worked, since you got the car?
It was the rod, J&D gave it to me to short! Thanks a ton guys, my buddy's mechanic was going to take out the entire shifting system, and you guys saved him a few hundred bucks ( those of you who actually helped me). Who would have known something so simple can cause so much disfunction,

Nice!! I love happy endings!
.......And so, Prince Charming fixed his shifter, and didn't get soaked by the mechanic, and they all lived happily ever after. The end.
