Hey guys been a while since I last posted here....
I guess family had keep me real busy lately.
Been using the vette a little, not as much as diserved though....
I´ve always wanted to upgrade my l-82 with some aluminum heads, but hassle of importeing them, etc etc has always kept me out, also cost is a big factor.
Now I have stumble locally with a guys who has a set for a decent price....
I have the stock L-82 1973 vette, 4 sp manual, with and edelbrock performer intake and card, engine was rebuilt 13 years ago and only 8000 miles since then.
The heads that i´m talking about are the Proform with this specs:
Intake Port Volume
200cc
Combustion Chamber
64cc
Intake Valve Size
2.02"
Exhaust Valve Size
1.60"
Valve Stem Dia.
11/32"
Intake Port Size
1.22" W x 2.20" T*
Exhaust Port Size
1.5" W x 1.4" T
Max Spring Dia.
1.625"
Exhaust Crossover
No
Plug
Straight
Weight (per head)
19 lbs.
my goal is only to change heads, so if this ones will make any other change required (cam, lifter, pushrods etc,) I not likely to buy them...
Should bolt on with nothing else needing to be changed as far as I can tell. A '73 had larger combustion chambers, so you will gain compression. Not sure if you are looking at Premium Fuel levels, but it will be close.
Making a head change without a cam change will result in a mismatch to a large extent...and 200cc intake runner heads on a mild 350 is going to make the engine a real dog with low- and mid-range throttle response.
There are better head swaps for sure...depending on what your budget is.
I was just curious on knowing this info...just seems I will keep stock....I´m happy with the actual performance of my car, but you I always looks into some mods....
Looks i´m gonna pass on this one and wait till I can afford a good set of heads, and matching cam!
Don't buy a cheap heads, you'll end up by spending extra money to fix their flaws and eventually exceeding what you have saved in the 1st place. I did that mistake with a pair of cheap Patriot heads and they were real junk, one spring got broken in less than 100 miles and the screw-in studs are flexing like a rubber eraser, needless to say the bad fitment of the valve covers and one spark plug location that hits the original cast iron exhaust manifold! .. the only thing that prevents me from throwing these two junk pieces of aluminum is the amount of work I have to do to replace them with some good, American made ones.
And BTW, I had a few tools made by Proform, all of them were junk as well!
Why not a pair of genuine GM Iron Vortec heads? ... maybe from local salvage-junk yard ... get the GM valve covers too ... from lite-med GMC/Chev truck/van ... about 1996-2001 ... 8th character in VIN is letter R ... also some inboard boats ... 64cc chambers... have em rebuilt locally ... very common swap ... with flattop pistons makes about 9.5 - 10:1 scr ... REQUIRES new intake manifold such as Edelbrock 2116 or Professional Products 52007.
Made in China, not something I would use. Buy Brodix IK 180cc heads for a 350 motor keep port velocities up. Even with a 4 speed those 200cc runners will effect mid range torque.
I too have a customer wanting to sell me a set of world 202 alum heads with machined valves(at least those are his words) for my 1980 l82 for a grand. **** or not?
