Default Engine Mounts perhaps?

I fired up the engine and after letting her warm up I put it in reverse and I heard a loud scrapping sound. I opened my hood and I didn't see anything or hear anything. I then left the hood open, placed my foot on the brake, and put the car in reverse and a gave it some gas. Needless to say the engine sank down, and the noise started up. I am sure the fan is hitting the bottom of the shroud. Is this a tell tell sign that one of my engine mounts are shot? I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Specs
68 Corvette
327 ci
Automatic

Yes, that sounds like a bad motor mount.

After 43 years, it is entirely likely. How do the tips of your fan blades look? Best to replace both motor mounts and the tranny mount, not a big deal.

Thanks guys. I figured that's what it was. The fan tips look good. There was a little wear on the bottom of the fan shroud, but I think that was from today when I fired it up. This is the first time I have heard this noise. I just got it out of the shop. But hopefully I can do this one myself with some good threads here on the forum.

Thanks again.

You can change out one mount at a time by raising each side via the oil pan rail (carefully, so that it won't slip off the jack or damage the pan rail).
