Hi s,
If you do Womb's test and can lift up the rear of the door when it's fully open, you probably have worn hinge pin bushings which can be replaced.
You can try a cosmetic cure by moving the striker in the door jam up... but, you may find the door becomes difficult to lock and unlock since you're putting strain on the latching mechanism when you use the striker to lift the rear of the door up as it closes.
So, probably hinge pin bushings in your future.
Regards,
Alan
As for the pin stripe, yes, I would assume its been like that for a while. I just bought the car a year ago so all that was done before me.
So if I put in new hinge pins and bushings, what will that do to the latching mechanism? Will that have to be adjusted?
I assume if I make this change making the door fit better I am then going to have a pin stripe not line up correctly. Oh well. I'd rather have the door where it should be.
Oh and when I close it I don't have to lift the door. it seems to close fine on its own. Which is why I think the latching mechanism is going to be an issue if I replace the pin and bushings.
It sounds like you are going to need to re-adjust the door striker in the jamb, but it is best to do the hinge first and then see what change needs to be made.
