so i was going to change the oil in my 79 L82( ive only had this car about a month and havent had alot of time with it), and i cant find the oil cap. can someone help me out . im guessing i have aftermarket valve cover cus thats where i think that its supposed to be, but they do say corvette on them so im not sure. am i supposed to use the dip stick tube to fill the oil or am i just missing something obvious? and yes i feel really dumb for asking this
Most aftermarket valve cover require cutting a hole for an oil fill cap.
The previous owner may have not done this in order to keep the valve covers clean looking. Is there an pvc valve on one of the the covers? He may have chosen to fill the crankcase thru this. Is there a breather on one of the covers? Post up a few pics and we can answer your question better.
i cant seem to post pics but i do have a hose going into both valve covers but there on the side towards the top of the motor, seems like it would be tough to pour oil in through there, but is this my only option?

Please figure out how to post a pic!
Otherwise filling thru the dip stick tube is going to take awhile!

Get a funnel, cut the end so it will fit snugly but barely into either the PVC hole or breather hole. If you don't, it will quickly overfill and run down the outside of the cover. And I say barely fit, because if it goes too far in the hole the blowback preventer will close off the funnel. And I say snugly to keep the oil in the funnel. And take it slow and easy, this is how I do mine and it works great! I use the passenger side vent, that side is less crowded.
