Default Upper Control Arm Removal

I am trying to remove the upper control arm in my '76. The radiator shroud is in the way. Is there a way around this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just did a complete front end on my 74, ran into the exact same problem. After 3 days of trying everything "I" could think of, came down to removing the shroud (fan and fan clutch, etc). Only way I could see of doing it. :mad

Good Luck.

heres what the documentations says: the second way to remove uc arm is to remove bolts holding the u c arm in place these bolts are pressed into the frame they are visable from wheel well lifting up on the u c arm. remove nuts place nuts back on until flush with bolt end tap the nuts with a hammer until bolts come free remove nuts pull the bolts and lift u c arm out. hope this helps and works i will be trying it sat. am.

78 Pace,

That may work, I tried soaking in PB Blaster (suggest you do too), they were PRESSED IN REAL TIGHT :smash: :smash: :smash: . There is also very little room to swing a hammer with enough force to budge the little buggers. I'm not trying to discourage you, hopefully yours will not be in there a tight as mine are. Without removing the bolts there is not enough room to slide the A arm forward enough to clear the bolts without first hitting the shroud, at least that was the way on my 74. Best of luck

Yep he is totally right, not enough room to swing a hammer on mine. I removed the shroud, and while I was at it replaced the fan with two electrical ones. Never again will i have this problem.-TK

If you have the one piece heavy plastic/fiberglass shroud, you have 2 options. The first, remove the shroud/radiator/core support as a unit. You'll have to take the hood off to do this. The second is to loosen the core support, etc., and pull the entire assembly forward. This MIGHT give you enough room. You might have to take the hood off to do this too. If you can't swing a hammer at the studs, try making a "pusher/puller" using a 3 inch "C" clamp. Put the nut on the end of the stud. Put a socket behind the stud. Put the "C" clamp on, and tighten it. You can push the stud out, catching it in the socket. Hope this helps. Removing the upper A frames is NOT an easy job, and there are few shortcuts. Chuck
