A while back my speedometer 85 MPH unit stopped working.....it fluttered for a while then all together stopped recording MPH.
Today we installed a new 140 MPH speedometer also inspected the cable from the transducer to the instrument,.....was in very good condition....Could my transducer be bad, (where to purchase??????) or the cable from the transducer to the trans be bad, or the gear in the trans?.....Will this ever end???? :seeya Cappy
Its very possible that the transducer has failed. I don't use cruise on my car so I replaced the two cable setup with a single long cable. The Last Detail has transducers for about $70.
dman535,
I don't have the cruise control hooked up either.....so I can run a straight cable to the trans?????Where did you get yours?????and how hard is it to replace?????? :seeya Cappy
Don't blow a bunch of money on a Corvette Transducer, Look for a Cutlass, Grand Prix, Monte Carlo or something in a junk yard that doesn't screem $$$$.
I can look it up but I believe these all fit according to Hollander's
AC Delco makes/sells all the cables for Corvettes. You can go into any auto parts store that sells AC Delco and order the cable. You want one for a 78-82 Auto, without cruise. My guess is its going to be about 72 inches long. You need to get underneath the car to dissconnect the speedo cable from the tranny and you need to get inside the car under the dash to disconnect the cable from the speedo. From there you just remove the old cable and replace it with the new and by pass the transducer. I left mine in place, its just not hooked up.
PROSOUTH,
Thanks for the reply.....since I don't use the cruise control...I'll replace both cables and remove the transducer.....Going with the single long cable..Thanks again guys... :seeya Cappy
