I just developed an engine miss at about 3000 rpm and above but only when the engine is under load ( like when I'm gettin on it). I can rev the engine to 5 or 6 grand with light throttle pressure with no miss but when I floor it, the miss occurs. I haven't checked anything yet except initial timing. Any ideas on what the problem might be? New 350 engine, dizzy, wires, plugs, carb, everything. I have about 700 miles on engine and no problems untol now.
Its most likely ignition related. When your on the throttle hard the ignition gets worked harder.
If you have a plug wire thats starting to burn, or isnt on a terminal all the way it could arc to ground and cause a miss.
If you can recreate the situation by loading up the throttle in gear, then have a friend do it and watch for anything arcing under the hood.
If you dont see anything you might look in the distributor cap for any carbon tracks that could allow it to arc to ground internally.
I have an Edelbrock 1411 carburator. The car did not get driven for several weeks while addresing a brake problem although I did start it frequently. I will check the plug wires and connections and dizzy cap today if time permits.
I checked all of the plug wires and connections, pulled the plugs, checked gaps, plugs burning tan color and even. Took the dist. cap off and cleaned the contacts where there was some carbon tracking. I still have the same miss. New HEI distributor by the way, new MSD wires, new plugs, all with 700 miles! I can't tell if its iginition or fuel related. When my buddy comes over I'll get him to feel the exhaust on each side to see if the miss is on one bank or both. I'll probably pull the metering rods and see if there is any trash that I can see. New fuel pump, filter and carb so there shouldn't be any trash but you never know. The float level should not have changed during the few weeks I didn't drive the car. Any one have any thoughts on the cause?
