Default 74 crate engine install update

I've got my old engine pulled out and put up in the crate until I think of what I want to do with it. ZZ4 is on the engine stand.
I cleaned up and painted the engine compartment. Unbelievable how dirty it was. Power steering fluid and oil all over the place. Looks really good now.
I'll have the new power steering components on Tuesday along with the engine wiring harness. Hoping to have that swapped out and installed next weekend. Little worried about swapping it out but the old harness is hacked up bubba style.
Ordered a new water pump (Edelbrock 8812 is supposed to have an indention to go around the timing cover bolt), engine mounts, D shaped exhaust manifold gaskets, and new plug wires.
Hoping to have everything done and installed in the next 2-3 weekends.

For those keeping their old engine, what prep do you do before putting it away? Not numbers matching but might as well keep it for a future rebuild if needed.

Good deal doing the engine bay, as no better time. Ditto on the wiring harness, as this could leave you stranded. If you do have some wiring splices, Waytek Wire has everything you need to do it right. Also, a member here(believe pappawanna) can get you wiring diagrams. If the other engines not numbers matching, wouldn't be to worried about keeping it. If so, good getting a rolling storage cradle, laying a piece of wood on it for a handy storage shelf.

I've always spent a bit of time "pickleing" engines before long-term storage. I used to have 5-6 around, down to 1 now

I spray everything I can reach inside and out with the stuff below, give it a couple of rotations, back off the rockers and then cover all openings with duct tape. I've started engines with no issues after storage for nearly 10 years with this approach...so it's worked for me.

I've also had friends swear by LPS 3 for long-term storage, but I haven't used it myself.

I've also seen dessicant plugs used, although I've never used them myself - I just put a plug in.

Received the Engine Wiring Harness and power steering componets thanks to Wilcox and UPS today. Should get the Water Pump, Starter, Plug wires, and Forward Lamp Harness by this weekend. Decisded to get the Lamp harness because it's 36 years old and the alt wires have been cut and spliced about three times.
Have a buddy coming down to help out and should have both harnesses put on and all components on the new ZZ4 this weekend. If all goes alright, may even be able to get the motor in this weekend and fire her up. Probably not until next weekend, but who knows.
Enough beer and anything is possible. That is if we don't spend all day watching football and BSing about old times.
