Is it posible to cut a new opening in the instrument bezel to accomodate a new radio? It looks like the indents for the ***** are too far apart to be covered with a new face plate, maybe a big homemade trim piece? Just wondering if anyone has tried this. I think it sucks that a new bezel with the large cutout is twice as much as a stock one.
I started to do this and decided it was a much bigger task than I had thought it would be, so I decided to pay the money and let a professional do it. I am happy with the results:
Apparently, its fairly common for it to break in one of the thin sides.
I was thinking of trying to fix it in some way and then cutting it to fit the new radio. Repros are about $100 and really unless you are looking for it you may not notice it was broken.
I see you have a '76 like me. This is what you need to make it look almost factory installed. I cut my original bezel and love the results. You should be able to get this from most of the vendors:
I cut the original bezel also. Glad I did it since the radio I picked up I can use bluetooth with it to stream music from my Iphone and also make phone calls through its integrated mic. Electronic stores such as Best Buy or Crutchfield sell Dash kits to fill the void that you cut out. I'm glad I did it....looks good and sounds great. Its your car....enjoy the ride and some good tunes.
Heres a pic of my install:
He has a '76 which has a different center console than the later C3s, so will need a different setup than for the 81/82s. I think they changed the design in '77. He'll need to cut like TFI showed and use the adapter plate that I posted. I don't have a picture of it installed, but if OP would like, I can take a pic of the finished install. It looks very clean and like it was made that way originally.

Where did you get this plate; my daughter 76 need the same thing when I cut the original bezel.
I cut the OEM bezel on the wife's 82 CE, What they wanted for the aftermarket bezel was obsene. I figure it's her toy / driver, might as well make it better for her. I kept the OEM radio, if I ever want to bring it back to collector status, I will purchase an after market OEM bezel.
