Default Installed My Pro Heads Today

And here are my results.
Lost my bottom torque. That was as surprise. Knew I would lose a little but not as much as I did.
Power was smooth all the way up. Still wanted to pull when I shut it down. (midnight on the streets was not the time to test top end :jester ).

I also was surprised to see the engine ran 50 degrees cooler  Anyone else run into this?

Now I still need to tweak the timing and fuel mixture (way lean at idle but the wot has a wider band on my meter now). And I hope to make it to they dyno to see real numbers. Pictures soon.

Very nice I think mine is running cooler after I put on the Sportsman II heads. Dosen't make any sense because the CR was rasied quite a bit and I thought I would have to worry abotu cooling. It runs a few degrees cooler maybe 5 to 10 but 50 !
That means if you were running at 200 you are now running a 150 ?

MotorHead: That is right. Was running 200 and now bearly over 150. Really wondering about that one

Zach: Theses are 235cc runners and 64cc chamber. Intake valve @ 28" of water @ .400 243.12.. Exhast - 177.80. Intake valves are 2.080. Exhast 1.600.
Anything else?

Are you running a different temp sending unit in these heads or are you running the same one as in the old heads? The reason I ask is that it's hard to find an aftermarket temp sending unit that reads right even hard to find a GM one that reads right with the stock gauge. If your using the old sending unit then

I am running an after market sending unit and what you mentioned was my thoughts exactly, but after running last night, we check the radiator and hoses and all tho not Hot or cold but touchable warm. I am planning to convert to a manual Autometer that I will pick up on monday. :yesnod:

You hit the nail on the head. Went and got a cheap manual guage and checked it. I am now running 175 (not the 150) but that is still cooler than 200 tho. RUnning in to a problem with getting idle to run correctly. The air/Fuel guage gives me a super lean condition and I cant seem to get it to Normal.
Think I may not have enough carb... :nonod:

Which comp cam are you running as with those heads you may need to change it to get more lower end torque with the upper being the trade off.

The specs on my cam are Duration @ 50
Intake: 218
Exhast: 218
Lift : 456

Replacing the cam was my thought too to get the Torque back. But I am so damn tired of removing the intake. I figured that if I do replace the cam I might as well go with a roller and put in a gear drive wihile I am at it.
Any suggestions on the cam that I might need to get?

With 235cc runners, I don't think any cam will get your low end torque back with a 355 ci engine. With heads that big you better get used to revving it up!

I agree 235 cc in a 350ci you better get used to revving em up the place. :D

Okie dokie, I'm gonna show my ingorance here :conehead Explain it to me, please.
I was comming off the line at around 3000. I have a 2400 stall TQ. Now if I am understanding this right, I am going to have to rev higher to come off the line?
And putting a higher duration cam and lift will not get my torque down? If not then what will a bigger cam get me if anything?
If I went to big on the runners what should I have gone and now that I have them what should I do :(

I was previously going to say you might as well take advantage of those heads and put in a Comp Cams 280H Magnum cam. Now I am no expert on cams but with those heads you need a high revving cam. If you were to go to a cam that would give you more torque you are kinda working against yourself because everything else is set up for high revving high horse power.

200cc runners would be enough 215 max.

Funny you should mention the 280H as I was just running numbers on that one and the 292H as the lift was .501 and the heads were flowing 274.02 @ .500.
What do you mean by High Reving besides the obvious? I have been looking at a top range of 7500. Are you talking higher than that?

Now with all this being said, Should I also be looking into a higer Stall TQ and mods to my now Stock 350? Will it hold up?

I'm curious, what was your compression ratio before and after? What heads did you replace (stock GM iron?)

If you're temp is reading 150, it's either not warmed up yet, the thermostat is stuck open, or the sending unit/guage is wrong.

Those heads are humongous. They probably recommend them for a 4000-7500+ operating range on a large cammed, high compression, high revving 350. A small block that sees 7500 is really pushing the limits of streetability. The 280 and even the 292 is probably on the mild side for those heads. Your 218@.050 cam is probably running out of steam before the heads are even really getting into their comfortable power range.

Not sure how much you know about heads, but 150-170 cc is around the size of stock GM heads. 200 cc is big for a street 350.

I'm curious, at what point do you think the motor is stronger at with the new heads? Like over 4000 rpm?

OK I am no real expert here but if that Weiand intake is a single plane, and the rotating assembly was properly balanced you have everthing there for a 500HP small block with the correct cam ( 292 ? )

7500RPM = high revving in my book, ask someone to run the numbers on DTD.

As for the tranny, can't help you there, never had an automatic :D

The only problem I see on that is that the single plane is 1 1/4 inches taller than the dual plane and that will not fit under my hood. I see that the dual plane is rated to 6500 but no figures on the Single plane.
The rotating assyembly was balanced. What would happen if I stayed with the dual plane and stuck in the 292H cam? Would the car hit a wall when it hits 6500?
