I'm finalizing my engine build but i need help in choosing a carb.
I'm building a 383 stroker with aluminum heads. however, I'm not sure which carb i should choose.
At first i was going for an edelbrock performer 600cfm with manual choke.
However, I've been told that i should run a 650 instead, but there is such a price increase is really steep.
Should I go for the 650cfm, the 600cfm which is about $40 cheaper...Or should I go for the edelbrock 750cfm which is still about $30 cheaper than the 650.
The engine is gonna have around 400hp and it will be a daily driver
Okay, since nobody else is chiming in: You are building a 383, so I assume you are looking for performance. The Edelbrock Performer carbs, in spite of the name, are probably not the best way to go.
What is your primary objective?
If you are primarily interested in best time at the track, get a used Holley 4150.
If the car will be primarily for street use, get a Quadrajet.
Gears? Transmission type? Intake type? More information needed
I'll offer a rare disagreement with Sensei - if you don't have a Q-Jet, don't buy one. Great carbs to be sure, and worth keeping if you have one - but there are other equally good or better choices available aftermarket for this particular application.
I am hoping we can avoid the "carb wars" on this one
How high do you plan on spinning it? If it's never going to see above 5 grand, the 600 will probably be plenty of carb, but if you are gonna be zinging that thing up past 7 grand, go with the 750. Like Billla says, need more info to make a more specific recommendation.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Classic Holley 750 ( 4779 ) can be used from mild to wild, had the same carb on 400 hp 355ci to 550 406ci but don't listen to me just because I have done it
