Ok, got the motor pulled, got the flex plate bolts out, the flex plate didn't come off as easily as I'd expected.
Is there a secret? Should I avoid prying on it? Or, is there a special place to pry from? It looks in good shape, so I don't think its too stuck, I just don't want to f---k it up.
A lot of the time rust will form on the end of the crank where the flexplate slides on. Spray some rust penatrant on the crank and try to move the flexplate back and forth to free it up.
Use a piece of wood and gently rap it all the way around and it should pop-off, If you think it is to rusty now is the time to replace-it they are very cheap.
After soaking it with rust penatrant, gentally tap near the hub with a hammer to shock it loose. Your not trying to bang it off or anything. The vibe from the strike will break the rust loose. Then pull outward on the ring gear from side to side to pull it off. Hope you didnt have a balloned convertor cause it could have messed up the hub and shroomed it a bit. Shroomed..thats a cool word. Ive been that way before. :D
Ok, got the flexplate off, and mounted the motor to the stand. Whew, never thought I'd be so excited to have so much work in front of me!! Now on to other decisions.... bigger cam? rebuild the steerigng while I have access? Stroke? Bore? Crank? So many things!
Thanks for all the advice, I'm sure I'll turn here again!
