After years of "tolerating" tiny oil leaks, I finally spent the extra $$ and purchased the Fel-Pro 1-piece oil pan gasket this weekend. Fit perfectly, just used a dab of RTV at each corner, and installed it using the really cool "snap-up" clips to hold it and the oil pan in place during install--a real neat trick if you're an "on-your-back-and-under-the-car" do it yourselfer.
Took the car for a long ride, and not a single drop of oil leaked out. :D
SO why have I put up with tiny, frustrating oil leaks over the past decade, trying to get a perfect seal on the four-piece stock gasket set???
'Cuz I was too cheap to buy the Fel-Pro, that's why. $44 for a gasket??? Yup, and worth every penny... I'm now a believer. :blueangel:
Re: Why was I so Cheap before??? (Vash the Stampede)
Vash,
The Jeg's catalog only lists one gasket for all small blocks 57-74, then again for 86-97 ($38 each) (not sure why the 75-85 gap). I actually got my gasket from my local Schuck's, for a bit more ($44), 'cuz I wanted it this weekend. Their computer ought to get you the right one. :yesnod:
Cheers
