71 350 with auto. It just dies like some one turned off the key when it gets warm!!! There is fuel at the carb and I have spark coming out of the distributer.
Has a holley 1850 and a mallory uni-lite distributer. The following have been installed or replaced:
tank sock
tank to fuel line hose
s-hose to fuel pump
fuel pump
fuel filter
coil
distibuter cap
rotor
plug wires
plugs
heat shield and spacer for carb
Started it up tonight in a dark garage and saw sparks coming from the distributer cap where the metal clip holds it on. Took off the "new" cap and found that it was broken where the clip holds it. Will put on a new cap tomorrow when the parts store opens and hope that is the problem.
If it happens again, check your gas cap and make sure it can breathe if it is a vented cap
Thanks but already tried running it with cap off and same result. Replaced the cracked cap and it started right up and the slight miss was gone but then again, as soon as it got warm, died like someone turned off the ignition.
Can you clarify - it has fuel and spark and won't restart or it has fuel and spark when it's cold?
My first guess would be the pick-up coil or module in the distrubutor is failing when it gets hot.

Ordered a new module and filter earlier today. I recently replaced the alternator and believe it may have spiked the module. will update as soon as new module arrives.
New module installed with a filter and just to be safe a ac/delco rebuilt alternator. Charging battery out of the car and will try to start later tonight. fingers crossed.
Be sure to use heat sink grease on the module before installing it. I made this mistake and my new module only lasted about 1 hour. Got the grease from Radio Shack.

Grease came with module and I put every bit of it on the module. Thanks. Will be attempting to start when I get home from work today.
It did not start!!! But, problem solved. I gave up my assumption that all the new parts were functioning and started with the basics.... Does it have spark? Turns out the Mallory 29219 coil that I purchased new in July of this year is defective. Dropped in the old coil it car started right up. Glad to have resolved but three months of $$$ and time to find out a brand new $40 coil is the problem.
