I'm planning to put headers and a high-flow catalytic converter on my 1981 4-speed. I've identified Hooker and Hedman as having ceramic-coated headers with AIR fittings for mine. Between those, which will fit better and/or look better?
On the high-flow catalytic, do you think the one Random Tech has that designated as being for a 1981 is good enough? Or, should I get one of their really high-flow ones and use it instead? Since I'll be having a custom front Y-pipe made either way, maybe go with a better catalytic converter?
Also, any advice on this little project in general? I've heard the tranny crossmember causes fits getting from the end of the headers over to the front of the catalytic converter.
Can't comment on the headers since I don't have either one but on the cat converter I think you'l find the custom fit made for your car is the same quality and flow characteristics as any other they may have. I'ed stay with the one for your car.
Sorry, can't advise on cat as over here in the U.K we takes 'em straight off. As for headers though I have headman's on mine and I've just had them ceramic coated. They fit well ! :flag Paul.
I've been wanting to get good headers for my '81, as well, and figured when I did I would go with 2 cats and true duals. Still researching the X-pipe / H-pipe science/art...
