Default Rear Emblem Positioning

I have an 81 vette in which the rear section was replaced, so there aren't any holes where the Corvette script was originally. Anyone have idea how to properly locate the rear script emblem?

I had the same question when I replaced the front and back bumper covers. I went to a local Corvette event with a roll of masking tape and a ruler. With permission of course, I ran the masking tape across the bumper cover at the bottom edge of the tail lights and measured up to the bottom of the metal CORVETTE emblem.

Then I measured the distance from the bottom edge of the emblem to the mounting studs, ran a piece of masking tape on my bumper cover just like I did on the original bumper, measured from there, drilled, and mounted.

I just taped and remeasured mine: 3" from tape to bottom of emblem.

Anybody have an original bumper and emblem they can measure to check my measurement?

Look on the back side of your replacement bumper cover. You may find dimples for the positions of the emblem mounting holes.

If memory serves, the pins on the back of the emblem are only for positioning. Emblem tape was used to hold them in place.

The assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows the installation and has a how-to on how the original emblems were to be installed.

Going to be a little difficult to at the back side with it installed already. Anybody have an excerpt from that manual?
