Leave it in the car and do it. Unless you want to pull the engine and get involved in the while its out syndrome. It will end up costing a whole lot more by pulling the engine. Probably turn into a frame off!

I have w/ a SB & it would work w/ a BB, note the long nose area w/ rad. out.
Sorry to jump in but I was wondering the same thing. I have a 1980 with small block. Will the A/C condenser have to be removed also? I was measureing and it seems awfully close.
I have some pictures of me doing my 427 I had to use the entire nose of the car to pull mine out. That was in a bb tho. measure the block front to back, then from the front of the block towards the nose and see what will clear and what wont.
Yes it may be close. I plan on pulling the AC condensor out as that just gives you both physical and visual access to the front of the block. The charge in the system, I guess I hope to find a shop that will evacuate the system and "save" the stuff for a later flush and recharge. That is a draw back.

On a SB, I just loosened the condenser.

Yes, on a BB may need to remove the condenser.
