Default Cam and Valve Train Change

Has anyone changed the cam, timing gears, balancer etc on a BB stil in the car by removing the radiator??

Or

Is it just as easy to pull the engine to do the job??

Leave it in the car and do it. Unless you want to pull the engine and get involved in the while its out syndrome. It will end up costing a whole lot more by pulling the engine. Probably turn into a frame off!

Really not a bad job with it in the car.

A very accurate observation, that.

God is that true. Start with one small project and end up with "way too many while I am at it projects". Thx.

Sorry to jump in but I was wondering the same thing. I have a 1980 with small block. Will the A/C condenser have to be removed also? I was measureing and it seems awfully close.

I have some pictures of me doing my 427 I had to use the entire nose of the car to pull mine out. That was in a bb tho. measure the block front to back, then from the front of the block towards the nose and see what will clear and what wont.

Yes it may be close. I plan on pulling the AC condensor out as that just gives you both physical and visual access to the front of the block. The charge in the system, I guess I hope to find a shop that will evacuate the system and "save" the stuff for a later flush and recharge. That is a draw back.

On a SB, I just loosened the condenser.

Yes, on a BB may need to remove the condenser.
