I've wanted to put a good shifter for my TH400 trans in my 69 Vette for many years. I know there isn't a straight bolt in made for a C3 but it seems most guys have used the B&M Megashifter w/ some mods to get it mounted. That's what I plan to use but they make several different models. Today the B&M tech recommended part #80694 because it's the most compact one they make.
That makes sense but I've seen different techs working for the same company give different advice before. I'm hoping that the guys who installed one can tell me which part # they used so I can get info from those with firsthand experience. Any help would be much appreciated.
I just pulled a Megashifter out of my '78. It fit w no issues in the console-just bolted to the floor. It's for sale btw. $75 complete w cable. Think I still have the custom boot also.
Thanks but since I hadn't gotten any responses I went ahead and ordered a new one from Summit last night. They did say that particular model is much more compact than the others, so hopefully it'll be easy to install. Good luck on your sale.
I don't remember the model number, but mine was the console version that fits 80's Camero/Firebirds. Did a little cutting on the console top to get it in, and later fabbed a new console top out of aluminum plate.

Thanks. Yours was one of a handful that I looked at- it came out nice & clean. B&M actually lists 2 Megashifters for the Camaro/Firebird. The one I got should be the easier of the 2 to fit into to console- I hope.
I plan to be at the shop during the install, so I'll try to take pics as it progresses and post them here. I traded a set of rear gears to the shop owner to have him install the shifter and he's a true Vette guy so I'm sure he won't have a problem with it.

Which shop are you having the work done at?
I tried getting a Megashifter to fit inside the stock console, but I didn't start with the 80694.....needless to say I couldn't get it to fit right.

It's a small local shop up here in the foothills. From where you are it would be a bit over 2 hours to get there. Let me see how it goes and I'll update you.
Not a Megashifter... but I put a TCI Thunder Stick in the factory console. Had to make a bracket for the rear mount to get the angle and hight of the shifter correct to have full range of motion in the shifter for the 4-speed automatic (200r4) and redrill for the front OEM bolt holes to align.

Truthfully, I wasn't aware of it until now. That's a great cause and it should be fun but our whole weekend is already booked. Are you going? If so, please take some pics and post them.

Hey, that cup holder,I want one. Where did yo get?
Wow, I finally found the right word combo to find this thread with a search. I've been wanting to update this for some time now. As it turns out the shifter I got, which was the most compact one available from B&M, didn't even come close to fitting in my 69. It probably could have been made to work with enough cutting/fab work but that would have been very labor intensive and would have been really hard to fit under the stock console. The shifter just sat way too high. I wanted those guys who were interested to know this. Maybe another brand has something more easily fitted for early C3s.
My guy ended up slightly modding the notches that the shifter slides through as you move it forward to shift. Between that and replacing a very sticky shifter cable, which was by far my biggest problem, my shifter works great. I had no problem hitting my shifts on a trip to the drag strip 1 1/2 weeks ago....which was a huge kick in the azzz by the way!
