Don't forget you'll need mufflers for those side pipes....I don't think Summit sells the mufflers with the side pipes, I believe they are purchased seperately.
Mufflers, Schmufflers.....those things suck, mine rusted to the insides of the side tubes and took about 3 days of pounding to get out. You will be much happier with the STS baffles. This past saturday was my first show in over a year, spent 4 months getting the motor ready....I had tons of people come and ask about my car which is nothing special, but just sounds awesome with the baffles and sidepipes. Give JCL an email or check out his site here; http://www.spiralturbobaffles.com/ you won't regret spending a little more for them.
I would grant you $2000. is way too much :D However, I ordered mine from Gary and I ordered the
fiberglass covers with the pipes. Cost $750. plus shipping- a far cry from $2000. and these
are the '69 style, not mid - 60s.
I totally agree with Bill Meyer, Gary Gruhala is excellant to deal with. It's nice that when you call he knows you by name and is willing to take the time with you and answer any questions that you may have.
I used the factory style side pipes, but had to cut in cats because of the Arizona smog laws. I also used the fiberglass covers which actually fit quite well. The only thing that had to be done was to make brackets for the front and rear of the covers so that there is an air gap between the cover and the actual pipe. Without the bracket the cover has a tendancy to lay a bit too close to the pipe, which would definately have melted and they had started to get hot. With the air gap you can even rest your hand on the cover, they are warm but you will not bet burned.
I found a big difference in the proformance, throttle responce was much quicker. And you can't beat the sound.
