Doing some work on the frame today and thinking how I really want some sidepipes when we get to that point. (IMHO, vettes should have em). But, I'm not willing to pay the near $1K to get them. I noticed some Dynomax sidepipes in the Jeg's catalog for around $200, in 52" and 71" lengths.
Anyone got any guidance on whether or not these would fit my 72? Or are they too cheap to consider? Thanks.
I'm with ya buddy, I think every C3 should have sidepipes, can't wait to get a pair for mine. $200 that sounds pretty cheap, were they made to fit a vette? What was the finish? Sidepipes RULE! :smash:
You gotta have side pipes. Today was the first day that we really drove any distance with them. We stopped at Wendy's for supper and there were times when we could not see the car for people :D
I was looking at them on Friday. These are the 4" black-coated Hooker with headers. From the summit catalog, part # HOK-50735 (black 4" pipes) - $202 pair. Then part # HOK-2224 (1 7/8 primary to 4" collector for SBC) $380 a pair.
So, about $600 in parts for the 4" sides with headers

Don't forget you'll need mufflers for those side pipes....I don't think Summit sells the mufflers with the side pipes, I believe they are purchased seperately.
I've seen them at Jegs. I was thinking of it, before I decided to bite the bullit for the 69 style...I just have wanted them for ever...but I can understand the $ issue. I think Dynomax manufactures them. If you search at Jegs I think you'll find them. http://www.jegs.com
I also remember seeing them in a JCwhitney catalouge at one pt. Just not sure if the sizes would fit properly.
Zora_Rules I have the same sidpipes as you, haven't put them on and am still debating whether or not I will. Are they very restrictive and how did they affect your performance over straight pipes out the end. I have been advised to not use the sidpipes for my new setup as they will lose 7 - 12 hp over straight to Dynomax Ultra Flows. Heck if I don't use mine will have to sell the sidepipes and cover.
GDH. I'm very please with mine. I of course love speed, but I also contribute a lot to the  factor, which in my oppinion none of the side pipes look as good as the original 69 style. I also like the Hooker look a lot, but didn't want to deal with the leg burn issue.
As for performance...I went from Ram Horns and 2" to Cerma coated Headers and 2.5" side pipes. So I actually got an increase in peformance...as far as the seat of the pants feel goes. According to what I've read they are not the best for performance, but I like them on my car, and it will get up and move pretty well for a SB :chevy. Keep trying to get to the track...but things keep happening to kill my planes.
One option you may want to consider, the covers are pretty accepting...have you considered running your dynomax under the factory style covers....they may indeed fit.
Will check that out, thanks. I love the look of the '69 style as well, that's why I bought them in the frist place. :yesnod: Jim at JCL said that he could fabricate some of his baffles for these style of pipes. May have to wait until next year to afford that though. Love the look on your's and Binney's vettes.
Understood. Goodluck. I may check with JCL eventually too....thanks for the tip (It'll be awhile before I spend any more $ on exhaust too ;) ). I've also considered the Mid Year Chambered pipes..they'd fit too and sound wicked  . I do like the sound of mine too though.
I have the sidepipe sound: Flowmater 40's out the rear. Tuck under and away great, don't get the sound right in my ear and like my Jamaican brother says no burnt leg worries maan.
