hey guys I am trying to remove my smog pump and i noticed several lines going to it and to the carb 1 that i want to ask about is the 1 going to the exhaust heat valve and the thermastat housing and another 1 going to the smog pump the the same housing.........can i remove the 1 going to the smog pump and leave the other 1 on going to the exhaust heat valve.....
Use this schematic and tell us what components you are describing. Not sure what year but looks like a mid C3 year. I suspect your referring to the diverter hose that connects to the lower carb port and the EFE TVS (yellow color coded hoses).
Car in avatar photo appears to be a 1977 going by the flags on the nose. My fave year! Yes you can disconnect the smog pump line and plug the vacuum source without impacting the heat riser as long as the riser hose stays continuous... if it tees into the yellow line eliminate the tee, etc. I completely simplified the vacuum driven systems on my 77 including the heat riser and the engine compartment will look much neater when it all goes back in.
Heat riser is designed to fail in "safe" position. Meaning, without vac. it will be open. You can delete the hoses to the AIR pump but leave the riser intact if you wish. Just remove the "T" fitting and take vac. source straight to thermostatic switch and then to riser vac. canister. Plug holes in exhaust manifolds with one of these.
Do not use tapered pipe thread plugs. These have line threads and a flare sealing surface on the end. mike...
