I have a new oil pump in a rebuild with about 600 miles. Even when the engine is warm it's pushing 40lbs at idle and about 70-75 lbs while driving. I'm pretty sure the guage is correct because before the rebuild it read 40lbs while driving which is normal. Is this going to be a problem? :seeya John
Do you know what they used in the rebuild. Sound like a high pressure pump and maybe even a high volume pump. Chevy only used a high pressure pump on a handfull of solid lifter engines and never use a high volume pump. A lot of different opinions on this but some feel that it could hurt the lifters and the drive gears for the pump. For street use, the stock pump is more then enough.
That's similar to mine, I got over 4,000 miles on it sense the rebuild. This has been posted before and it is that way for a number of people so you are OK.
I'm sorry I don't have a answer for why it's happing.
No problem with that oil pressure. Just pray you have good valve seals. If the valve seals arent up to par you may have more oil getting down them into the cylinders mainly because there is more likely to be that much more oil pumped to the top end. Good seals solve the problem should you run into it.
Jvette73 I am having a problem with oil burning and was wondering if it was the valve guides. I have new s/r World heads and was thinking I got some bad heads. Looks like I will be changing the guides/seals. Any ideas on good seals? Thanks! :D
All I can tell you Johns vette is that you need to get positive type seals. These are the type that lock down over the guide to provide a positive seal for the guide. I was using umbrella seals when I first went to a high volume pump and was fouling plugs and burning a qt. every 300 miles. I switched to positive seals and corected the problem completly. I suggest checking with the manufacturer of the heads to see what type seals they would recomend. I used Crane street performance seals since the fit my guide diameter. Valve stem diameter and outside valve guide diameter at the important measurements you'll need to know in order to get the seals for your particular setup.
I don't know adout the engine but high pressure will brake your oil faster than conventional pumps, try to check the viscosity of the oil after 3000 mi on high press and remember the old one, I can assure you that this one is much more broken or liquefied than the previous one. Just beware because liquefied oil doesnt give enough lube characteristics as good oil. It will be like using disel istead of oil!

Jvette73 Thanks I'll be calling the manufacturer for the seals. drives61 did you ever consider getting professional help? Just kidding! I laughed when I read your post. Thanks again people!!! :D
