Default lug nut problem

Went to remove the passenger rear tire for the first time and one of the lug nut will not break loose. It's very tight but just spins around. What are my options?

Default That's a BUMMER!

You can go to any tire shop and they can grind the lug off, that's the easy part. If just the lug is stripped you WIN! If it's the stud that's stripped it gets more difficult because the backing plate must be removed! Or you can make a small hole in the backing plate.

I'd dremel it across the threads as far as I could without getting into the wheel, then chisel it loose.

Yes, it's the stud that stripped. One of the other stud is also stripped but I was able to get the nut off that one. And to make things even worse 2 of the remaining 3 have some movement in them.

you may be able to use a nut splitter to crack the lug nut in half. orielly auto parts sells one for ten bucks. part number W88030. you will need to check that the splitter is large enough for a lug nut.

same thing happened to me on my 81. i ground nut and stud down as close to rim without hitting it. then took punch and drove stud out. if you turn axle to a certain position you can insert new stud and then pull it tight with nut. usually the stud will strip before the axle. hope this helps
