Default changing intake manifold?

hey guys having carb cleaned up and a kit put it it and was thinking about replacing original intake manifold on my 79 vette. I would like to know if there would be any possible HP gain by doing this. The carb is original carb that came on car as is intake. The motor is a new 350 crate motor with about 6000 miles on it now. I also would like to know how would i know which type of intake to use....srry about the lack of info....if not enough plz let me know and i will try to post what info would be needed...

what intakes on it now? What size cam does it have? If it's a stock cam and the intake is the original corvette cast iron, then going to an aluminum intake such as the performer or the wieand action plus should pick up a little hp & torque.

What type of exhaust?

Without more information on the existing crate engine (heads, cam, current intake, etc.) it's really hard to tell...

It's a good deal. Basically the same intake as an Edelbrock Performer.

Without having to give the life history of the car you can pretty well tell with above quote its probably close to stock.

I put an Edelbrock Performer 2101 on my 74 small block years ago. Runs great. Also, it's low enough so that I had no fitment isses with hood clearance.
An aluminum manifold gets warm faster than an iron one- you may be able to lean out the choke a tiny bit to maximize fuel economy. I was able to remove my heat riser. (Why put a high flow exhaust system on the car if you are going to valve off half of it?) But I think the '79 has a better heat riser system. Might be no point in that for you.
Make sure your carb is OK when you have it off to R&R the manifold.

Without knowing fairly detailed specs on the engine, any estimate of HP gains from an intake upgrade are just a WAG. I prefer to get the information so that I can offer a reasonably educated estimate.

Thanks; that helps a bunch

If you have headers, there's probably around 15-20 FWHP available from an intake change. With stock exhaust manifolds, I'd probably give it a miss.

If you don't have 'em, headers would be my first investment, followed by a cam upgrade...then an intake. All of this is based on your already having a good tune in place...which can make a HUGE difference in power and throttle response.

Ok professor.
But we knew he has a factory intake, just that much tells me he automatically needs an aluminum intake.

an intake will give him more power if he has headers or not. he would benefit more from both no doubt. it all has a stacking effect.

What carb and air cleaner are you using?

Automatically, huh? So what type of power increase do you expect to see from an intake upgrade on an otherwise totally stock engine?

If by a "stacking effect" you mean that each component adds more power on it's own...this is not the case. The overall combination is what makes power. Mismatched combos don't make anywhere near the power that a well matched combo does. Well-matched combos allow each component to deliver it's full potential.

The only thing you might notice a difference from would be a free flowing exhaust. Unless the motor was a Christmas present buying a 195 HP motor and then asking what you should do to make more power, sorry just doesn't make any sense.

What you should do to make more power would have been to buy a 295 HP motor in the first place. Buy the time you get the 195 HP motor to 295HP you will have spent more money had you bought the more powerful motor in the first place

Any engine can be upgraded to produce more power.

Not everyone has $15K to build an engine...

Yea motorhead I would have done that IF I actually bought the motor but motor was in car when i bought car...the PO just keep records and such on everything done to car down to oil changes, wheel alignments to everything done to car for last 15 years...and i was just asking to see if it would possibly be any noticeable HP gain..thanks

.....LOL
