My 68 327/300 hp has a Holly Double pumper, mild cam, headers with 2 1/2 " ex, roller rockers, tall valve covers, 9.6 to 1 comp.
There is no major leaks, no smoking, no smoking on start up.
I put a new pcv valve in and in doing so I pulled the gromet out and looked in the valve cover, no baffel but the gromet is like a deep plug with a slit in the bottom. I'm sure that oil is being sucked up through there. At idle looking in the valve cover there is a lot of oil being thrown around, no lack of oil in the top end on this puppy.
Could I just put a breather in place of the pcv valve, there is already one on the other valve cover, and would ther be any problems with that. I know that the pcv is part of the emissions but everything else has been taken off.
I did a search but got cross eyed reading all 200 threads and couldn't find a answer to this.
Yea you want a baffle but if the VC does not have a baffle then look for a breather cap that has a spot for a PCV valve on top. That will help a little if you are sucking up to much oil.
Thanks all, you'r right, There's many differant sides to to this simple question. I guess I'll find a set of tall covers with baffels and stick with the pcv.
One quick note, I was getting a little smoke at start up and the last oil change I added a 1/2 qt of Marvel. No more smoke just pcv sucking up my oil.
