Default Intake Question

I am looking into getting acreate motor and see that some have experiances clerance issues with some setups, like the Year One block on certains years with certain hoods.

I dont know what it is ofically called, maybe a carb bonnet or carb hat, but I remember when I was much younger, I helped my neighbor pipe a supercharger onto a 350 that he had in a GTO. The bonnet as i will call it, sat and screwed to the cab and formed down to a 4 inch round opening, to which we mated up some PVC piping. We heated it with a heat blanket so we could get the basic bends and curves we wanted.. When we were done, we had a machine shop bend some SS pipe to our basic design and then put a cone air filter on it, making a crude cold air system. I know we did this because of clerance issues as well.

Do you all know the bonnet I am talking about? K&N makes one called Carburetor Hat/Plenum. Says it needs 3 1/8" clerance.. Does that sit any lower than a drop base air cleaner allowing for some more room??

Yes, I know what you are talking about. For performance a 1" drop base air cleaner is normally used & is about 2 1/2" height.
The 73-79 med. rise hood allows the performance intakes like RPMs & others on SB w/ aftermarket dropbase about 1" & Holley.

Humm, Oh well. Just thought I could make a neat cold air system.. I guess the K&N with the element in the lid helps flow to.
