shifter loose?

shifter loose?
Hey guys my shifter works fine but my question is that when I take her out of park and go thru the gears it just fills loose like it could just slide from 3 to 2 or any gear with just a little push.....like there is no detent between the gears. I guess I am asking should there be?????

Looking at this picture you will see cutouts in the plate in the background. These are the detents for the shifter. They should be positive stops.

Yea that is what i am talking about......it is almost like mine is just very mushy for lack of better wording.......no detent at all...looks like it might be time for another shifter?????

mine was like that also. i drilled my stock shift gate welds and removed it and made my own shift gate and now my shifter will only move 1 gear at a time. no way to over shift a gear and it feels solid now.
