Am trying to restore my '70 to stock specs. Anyone know if the factory install the tunnel insulation over (covering) the battery cable? Or did the tunnel insulation go on first, then the battery cable and clamps?
Hi,
Good to see you here!
I was able to check the original insulation my 71 sb.
The battery cable is mounted against the underbody and then the insulation was installed.
I can tell because one of the mounting studs for one of the cable clamps would have to have a hole in the insulation to pass through and there is none. But there is an imprint on the back side of the insulation in the shape of the stud and clamp at that point.
I hope this helps!
Regards,
Alan
Thanks Alan. That was exactly the kind of investigative info I was looking for! Its great that you have a car with the original parts still on it. For some reason, the insulation was gone on mine. But the original transmission, cables, and other parts are still there. There was evidence of insulation on the fastening clips on the sides of the tunnel, but none underneath the battery clamps. Thats consistent with what you found. Steve
