Hi and how are you? i bought a brand new battery for my 82 corvette. installed it and car fired up at one turn. left battery in the car for a week. went today to start the vehicle, the engine turn but it can't start it. not enought juice or volt on the battery to start the car. the more i attempted to start the car the lesser the response i get from the engine. what could it be or what might be draining my battery? i dont have any hood or under hood light, no stereo or alarm. thanks
If you can't isolate the battery drain quickly, you could use a battery isolation switch.
Quite a few people fit a battery cutout switch to the battery terminal post.
It is a foolproof way of preventing battery drain on a car which is not driven regularly. Works for me.
A possible and common problem could be the courtesy light timer. They seem to be a regular offender for this kind of problem after so many years.
When they go bad the courtesy lights (interior and spare tire lights), can stay on or turn on at random times and drain the battery. The way I found out the timer on the '78 I used to own was happen to be up late and looked outside and saw the interior lights on in the car. That explained why I kept having a drained battery. I changed that and no more problem.
The timer is a bright orange piece mounted behind the glove box with wires plugged into it.
hi? i did tester light test. the test light stay on for open door and close door. i need serious help. where should i start to fix my electrical issues
It does sound like a bad courtesy light timer. The lights should go out no more than about thirty seconds after closing the door. If they stay on, look at the timer as the problem.
