1968 Steering column rebuild help
Recently my steering column developed some strange noises while turning and I had my local Corvette expert check it out. He determined that the steering column needed to be rebuilt and would need new steering column bearings. Well......locating these is becoming impossible and I'm getting worried that I'll never be able to drive my car again. He has been trying all of his usual sources including GM and has come up dry so far. He's continuing to look and said he'd get back to me in a couple of days.
This seems to be a very 1968 specific part, but we're not sure yet whether a 1969 column could be used instead, rebuilt, and installed using the same mounting points.
What would any of my fellow 1968 owners do in this situation ?? I'm getting desperate and want to drive my baby !!!!! :cry :cry :cry

Depending on if you have a standard or telescopic steering I could be more specific. I am also rebuilding mine and I see lower bearings for yours.
ZIP may have the bearings also and have a on line catalog too

The 1967 and 1968 corvette columns (both standard non-adjustable and the optional telescoping columns are the same. The 1969 and later columns will not install into the older Vettes.

I have the standard column. Thanks for the info on Dr. Rebuild. I just printed the page with the bearings and will drop it off at the mechanic tomorrow. I also found a listing for bearings in the Paragon catalog. Hopefully this won't be as hopeless a situation as I first thought.
