Studying 69 Chev 427 engine codes, i see some 427/390 are coded "high performance" as used in the Corvette but others do not have this extra footnote but are still 427/390 as used in passenger cars, etc.
What makes the Corvette's high performance?
Thanks
Charles Rahm
Charles, Chevrolet naming conventions are a little strange. Basically all big blocks are "high performance", but here's the actual factory breakdown for the Corvette:
427/390 and 427/400 are classified as "High Performance"
427/435 is classified as "Special High Performance"
427/430 is classified as "Heavy Duty"
As for the full size cars, the following applies:
427/335 doesn't have a designation at all, so it's "Standard"
427/390 is "High Performance"
427/425 is "Special High Performance"
Hope this helps.
Ed
