When purchasing used doors, what should be inspected before puchase. Not sure what area of doors are prone to problems. Doors would be to fit a 1971. Any info appreciated.
Hi ww,
I'd look at a couple of things.
First of course, for any signs of rust on the metal door frame.
Second I'd check to see that the fiberglass skin is properly bonded to the frame.
Lastly, I'd look to see that the various mounting holes in the door seem to be in good shape and not obviously stripped or enlarged.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
The bottoms of the door frame often rust and can be easy to detect just look for the holes. The other spot to check is behind the stainless steel trim that fits between the door and the window felt. I am not sure what year GM started putting in the steel beam (74 maybe) adds a few pounds to the car if that matters to you.
