Finally had a beautiful warm day and decided to change my thermostat and take the car for the first ride of the year. Things went well until I went to put the brass stopper back in the bottom of the rad and the brass insert snapped out. What a pisser. Had to remove my rad and now will have to take it to a shop to have it brazed and pressure tested. Not much money but so much for my ride. Maybe this weekend as I will not have time to put the rad back in until Saturday.
....know what you mean about driving it. Right now, I have to 'yank' my radiator to go have it 'cleaned', etc.... but instead I've been driving it short distances (due to running 'hot' ) just to enjoy it. :yesnod:
You probably should have driven it around the block first, let it cool off, then work on it.... :jester
BTW - not to make matters worse - but I drove my '68 to work today with the top down - (still needs rad. cleaning)
I did the same thing a few years ago. The radiator shop that brazed the plug back in, somehow, did it with the radiator in the car. At least now you can have it pressure tested.
