Default steering column removal

Hi Jim,
I am having trouble removing the dash panel from a 1968 vette I bought. The previous owner put a lot of 1971 parts on this car and I think the steering column is a '71. There are no screws to remove the column covers which are keeping the dash panel from coming out. I have removed the column saddle mount bolts and looked for the mounting bolts on the firewall but do not see any, just a black oblong flange cover that is attatched to the steering column at the firewall and won't move. Is there some place I can get some help from someone who has run into this problem. The steering column is a tilt/adjustable model. the site will not let me post attatchments.

Thanks, Bob Cadena

Read this thread regarding How to Post Pics.

I know zip about '68's. Have you looked for nut on the engine side of firewall where the column comes through? Has the steering coupler between column and steering box been unbolted? Does the column move up and down at all from inside the car?

I don't know if these will help or not.
