Default 82 Crossfire to Carb Conversion

I recently purchased a CE that has been converted by one of the previous owners. The car has not been run in years when I purchased. The seller basically had the car running off of a can of starter fluid. Anyway my plans are to keep the performer intake and holley carb setup. From what I have been reading the steps I need to follow in order to check everything out and get running.

Check to see if fuel pressure regulator is installed.
Install vac. advance HEI distributor
Clean & flush tank/carb (rebuild if needed)
Install lockup switch in transmission

Allegedly this was a running car years ago. My concerns are I don't see a fuel pressure regulator. The stock 82 electric fuel pump runs at 13 - 15 psi and a carb runs @ 6 psi. They also have a non vaccum advance HEI distributor installed. Which tells me somebody didn't know what they were doing. It may run but timing will be off at upper rpm's.

Any thoughts

the fuel pressure regulator was in the throttle body that was taken off.if you want to use the fuel pump that is in the tank ,you will need to put in a in line regulator.you need to do a look up for the trans .yes the disy needs some kind of advance.your fuel filter is on the frame rail passenger side about where seat is .you should change that .when you take it off look at the fuel and in the tank and decide if the tank needs flushing [it would be a good idea].with all that starter fluid being used be sure and do a oil change.look on the inside of where your battery is and see if your computer is there just so you know.

Thanks, I'm going to start to get into the car this weekend.

I was wondering if I could use a pre 82 sending unit @ the gas tank and use a mechanical pump @ the engine.

Finally got all the parts inline and installed on Friday night. I picked up the following:

79 Fuel sending unit
New fuel tank to sending unit gasket
fuel pickup screen
GM Performance mechanical fuel pump
Fuel mounting plate
ARP bolt
Factory hard line pump to carb
Molded fuel & return lines
and a bunch of hose clamps.

After I installed everything and changed the oil & checked all fluids & plugs. Cranked for a couple of seconds and flushed out the old stinky fuel out of the lines and got fresh gas to the carb it fired right up and idle's great.

If felt great to get this car running knowing the previous owner couldn't and let it sit around for 6 years. I recently picked up all the factory corssfire parts that someone posted on CL for a 100 bucks. I picked really everything up I need to get this CE back to where it belongs. But I can at least move it around to work on throughout the winter.
