Default 700r4 need help

Yes Yes I tried the search function and even the moved stickies I didnt have any luck.....

1975 with 700r4 mounted

The drive shaft and cross member are all in.

I was able to drive the car around a bit but then had nothing or i had drive but not reverse....

Is there a tech article that list everything you need to make this happen?

I know that I will need to make an extra notch in the shifter gate.

I can only get park, rev neutral and drive before the cable seems to run out of room. I saw somewhere on here to adjust while in neutral or do I have to get a cable from an 82?

Any help would be great

Thank You
Eric

In my 77 the th350 shift cable worked fine-no issues. Got bracket from BOW T and the shift plate from them. Saw that I could have mod' the old one to work but replaced instead.

You should be able to get all ranges except 'first' gear when you do a THM 350/400 to 700R. I suspect that the problem is that you can't bolt the previous shift cable bracket (made for the 350 or for the 400) to the 700R pan and have it work. The bracket needs to have the same 'geometry' on the new transmission; and because the mounting bolt holes, relative to the location of the shift shaft, are in different orientation, the movement of the shift shaft would not be correct.

As I could not locate or find the proper bracket for the 700R (they tend to be sold with the transmissions when used), I had to cut it and reweld it so that it would orient the shift cable in the proper manner when mounted to the [different] 700R tranny pan bolts.

{Note: The gist of this issue is that the bracket flange, where the shift cable mounts to the bracket, must be located the same distance from the center of the shift shaft on whichever transmission it is mounted. If you didn't modify that bracket, there is no way it is going to do the job properly on the 700R.}
