I think the sending unit arm is hitting the inside of the tank. Can someone id the correct mounting orientation? PO replaced it. Fuel gauge reads 1/4 full. Disconnect ohms lead at tank, gauge reads past full. Ground ohms wire at tank, gauge reads empty. Already replaced gauge and resister. Float arm must be getting stuck or hitting the tank as it tries to go up?
Ok.. I just saw this.. While the picture makes it look all warm and fuzzy.. it isn't. The factory had the luxury of installing the tank while the body was off.
You'll need to remove the mufflers from the rear of the car, the spare tire carrier (good luck with the front two bolts... soak them, soak them, soak them)
From the picture if you are removing the tank... Disconnect the fuel lines and then remove bolt 15 on both sides. This will release the tension from the straps. Next remove the bolt 11 two times from the lower support.
When you remove the bolts from the cross member the tank should be ready to come out of the car. If you are re-installing you'll want to sit the tank on the crossmember with the insulation and the straps in place. Then you can raise it up to install the four bolts back in place but you want to do this loosely. Start the strap bolts and leave these loose. Then from the top of the car look at the orientation of the neck... Make sure it is in the correct place before you tighten down the bolts.... if you don't you'll regret it.. The tanks can be off center left to right and forward to back so center it in the hole and then tighten your bolts.
