Not trying to be a smart alec, but it is a 73 and people keep saying put true duals on. I thought that's what they came with. Or are people just saying yhat's what they did? Or are people saying go to a 2 1/2" exhaust? And would that make a differance compared to the 2" it came with?

dual 2.5" will work great and compliment your mods.

Ill hold off on the number match L48 bit my opinion seems to ruffle some feathers. Just enjoy the darn thing.

74 was the last year for true duals, they just added resonators for 74. 75 had a catalytic converter.

Watch out for those false duals, they suck!! Also, I can't believe nobody has even mentioned side exhaust. I mean, uh.....true side exhaust!

Not trying to be a smart a$$, but do you have proof of this? These cars weren't bought and stored away as collector items, so it's a little hard to believe that a 39 year old car only has 47k original miles.

If it is in fact a low mileage motor, you shouldn't have any problems at all making any mods you want without worrying about durability issues.

No hood clearance problems , if you looked at it you would think it was stock, mine was a low mileage car too when I bought it. 28,000miles on it . It only has 65k on it now. I also did a compression check on it before I started playing with it and it was all good.

Thanks Ron.

I was planning to do a compression check tonight if I can get my garage heated up! Cold here in Texas today! Probably not bad for you Canadian folks but us Texans aren't used to 30 Degrees F.

Thanks for all you help. If you ever need and Ford advice, drop me a line!!

I love ford's engines I built a 1965 Austin Healey and stuffed a 302 in it, had a ball very similar to a cobra , it was a kit car from Classic roadsters in ND , I always said anyone can build a CHEV , but it takes a real man to build a FORD . I raced many vettes with the Healey and man some of these guys have tempers!!!!

When I bought my 04 last June we stopped in Texas, we drove it back from LA

I know what you mean. I love all old performance cars. AMX, Mopars, Chevs, Fords.

I have embarrased a lot of Z06 guys with my Cobra. All in fun!!

I find it strange that you say it's cold in Texas, up here we think of Texas like California and it should never get cold there , right now in Ottawa it's 29F . just at the freezing mark!

Ron,

It does get cold (cold for a Texan). Keep in mind that we had over 2 months of 100 degrees plus. No all of a sudden its 45 and we are freezing to death! Us Texans are real sissys when it gets cold.

I had a rebuilt 1971 2 bolt l48 in one of my trucks that was said to have 30k miles on rebuild (you know how that goes). I put ported vortec heads on it, xe268 comp cam, weiand air gap intake, headers 3" duals and other stuff. It was fun while it lasted but that was only about 2k miles of mild driving till i had two spun rod bearings. not worth the money invested on a stock shortblock rebuild. if you want decent power, rebuild it with decent internals (if you want it numbers matching) or get a crate so you dont have to do it twice like me IMO. good luck with whatever your decision is

OK, just a quick detour from the topic please- what's that lurking in your avatar? It looks pretty interesting.
