Default Radiator Support

I have the whole nose off the car on my '71. I'm putting te radiator support on. The lower mounting holes have oval slots. How do I know what is the proper location? It seems like alot of variables. The fender wells have no definite mouting spots in the rear. I took measurements from the firewall to the radiator support on my buddy's car and thats the only baseline I have to work with. Any thoughts? Thanks!

When you put the radiator support on the frame you can't know the correct place, only when you put the nose it will line up with the side radiator reinforcement brackets on the fenders.

I agree with Avner. Mount the support loosely using your baseline dimensions. Make your final adjustments when you mount the clip.

Did you find shims when you took the clip off the car? Did you make note of where they were?

Avner and Mike are both correct.

You pretty much have to put this in the car loosely and then tweak it.

The rod from the surround panel upper nose reinforcement to the lower support will dictate where the lower portion of the support falls. The side fender holes are not elongated so there is no adjustment there. All the adjustment is controlled pretty much by the shims used under the support. Numbers 6 and 7 below.

Markyta.... just wing it.. you'll be fine. Too many things dictate the outcome as a fixed position. Once in place then you shim.... which will raise the front end just like in the picture....

The key is to make sure the hood lines up on the front nose and at the back.. If you have this you have it by the rear. If the hood doesn't line up good at the middle then there is another trick to fix that.. You separate the inner fender from the surround panel and make the adjustment.. then re-glue.

Now things that will play havoc with you... cars that have been hit, and cars that have had the front end off and then glued on in the wrong place.
