I've got a decked 70's LT-1 which I've taken on faith since i've owned it from the previous seller. What I do know is that it's a 350 from 1970.
But can't prove it's an LT-1 since it's decked.
Is there anything else on the internals to look at and possibly prove what it is?
Also the body is off the frame. Is it possible to start the engine and run it for a little with almost nothing hooked up to it? No radiator, pedals, ...?
What I'm getting at is I'm going to sell the engine. Thought hearing it run would be what most would want.
Ballpark of what a potential LT-1 and M20(maybe M21?) is worth?
the 8 inch balanced is a clue but not only the lt-1 had it. a forged crank is another clue. forged pistons another clue. the numbers are the evidence for the block. but anything could be in the block by now. so if the block numbers are correct make sure it has the correct internals
There's no difference in value between what used to be a real LT1 'till somebody decked the pad and any other engine that was rebuilt to look like a clone. They both used a 0010 block which GM made millions of.
If the engine is now in need of an overhaul, it's worth a few hundred bucks maybe.
I'll add to this.. in regards to you question of staring it... Sure you can! As a bone headed kid I started one on an engine stand. Ran a garden hose to the water pump... and a gas can for fuel.... I'm not sure I'd do this today though.
Today, when we do frame off restorations we always start them on the frame before we sit the body back. We have a jig with a rad, elec. fan, gauge, ign harness and switch. This way we can do a final tune without leaning over the newly painted body.

I guess that's why I asked. Figuring a potential LT-1 would be worth a lot more to people collecting since it was more rare.
If it's not because it's been decked I won't worry about opening it up to find out.
+Block #3970010
+It does have a Muncie M21 #P9R13B
-There's a Qjet on it now... #07040507 3264
supposed to be a Holly?
-Intake doesn't look aluminum and from what I read it was supposed to be?
Intake= #3927184
+no A/C, and only 1 fuel line...
So a decked 350 with a Muncie M21 probably worth?

not sure what an actual LT-1 came with in terms of transmissions....but since everything else on the car is from different years I guess I don't expect the trans to be any different.
