Roughly, how loud are the magnaflow mufflers? I don't mind some louder than stock, but I don't want a "Lookie here, Officer" exhaust system, either. Plus, I want to be able to carry on a conversation in the car. Corvette Central has what seems like a pretty good deal on them, but I don't want an exhaust system that's aggressivly loud.
Anybody happy/unhappy with them?
I've had or have Magnaflows on several cars and like their sound. They give a low burble at idle and open up more at speed. They're not objectionable or raspy at all.

Those are my criteria too. I had chambered mufflers but the drone was not acceptable to us (me and my wife). Magnaflows with 2 1/2+ dual exhaust is perfect from the inside and sounds nice on the outside too.
scottyp99,
Thank you for the link, that is exactly what I am looking for. I want the Flowmaster! I have an 81 and my mufflers are offset on both ends, does anyone knowq if this is the original styly offset? Also, when I measure the lenght of my muffler do I count the little lip on each end? If I count the lip I get 14 3/4" if I do not count the lip I get 13". Thanks for any help. I am going to see if Santa will bring me these for Christmas. I want LOUD!
Hard to tell how loud they are by the videos you kindly sent me.
I can use the volume control on my speakers to make them sound sweet or make them scream.
Well, I just ordered the Magnaflows anyway, adolescent that I am..
If I hate 'em, I'll tell ya.
If I love 'em, I'll tell ya.

They get louder as time goes by. I also had these baffles in the pipes to please my neighbour, I took them out now, they cost me a few ponies and I have 1 7/8" headers so next time it will be louder and closer to 500RWHP.
BTW if you were in the shop I don't think you would think it was all that quiet in there as the RPM's went up
Sounds great! What size/type of rear tires are you using to harness all those ponies on the street?
I have BFG 255/60 R15 rear street tires, but really NO street tires provide any traction if you rev the throttle at all. At the strip, MT ET Street Radials give a good hard launch.
Its like the first time you buy a used army tank and don't know what your looking for, but after a few you will know whats best.
Actually, for a street tank, If you look for something under about 60 tons, with a main gun with a caliber between around 90mm-105mm, you should be just fine. Also, look for nice wide tracks, for off-road stability, and ammunition storage in the hull, as opposed to inside the turret, for enhanced survivability on the battlefield. A smooth-bore gun that is capable of firing depleted uranium SABOT ammunition is nice, but a rifled barrel using HEAT ammunition shouldn't be a deal-breaker. You should have very little trouble in today's market finding such a tank, made in the '60s or '70s, for well under a million dollars.
Now, if it's a dragstrip tank your lookin' for, I can't really help you out there, not my area of expertise.........

Yep, if you're running that deep into the 10s it must be like driving on ice with only street tires.

I was wondering if anybody could find any relevance in his comment. I'll give you credit- you took a shot at it!

My first one had a secret storage cabinet full of AK47s!
I did get a "wide track" version with Pontiac suspension and a Hurst dual gate paddle control!
I put on the full Corvette Central dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers. I don't have headers. They sound muscle strong but definitely not overly loud. So the answer is that you should get them. Most cops will appreciate the awesome car and the sound that goes with it anyway and will not pull you over for some sweet muscle noise even if you have headers vs a punk ricer with an oil can muffler. Of course, if you're going 100 in a 55 zone...
