sun visor snapped

sun visor snapped
Hello all, My sun visor has snapped flush with the housing that attached to the windshield.I know I can buy a new elbow but how do I get the broke section out of the housing. I am thinking that drilling it out is the solution. Sorry I would post pix but camera went kaplooey.

I assume that this is on an 80? I think there is a cap that you can remove from the top and just tap the elbow, or what is left of it, with a screw driver and hammer.
