I got a 1980 corvette with the twin turbo hood. I am wanting to get a new intake manifold and am wondering what type I can get since I have additional clearance. Its my daily driver and I do quick drives so I'm into the power being between idle - 5500 rpm. Thanks fellas.
The Turbo Hood was avalable in both Tall and Short versions. The Short one is about the same as a 73-79 stock hood. One way or another your probably better off measureing what You have Yourself than relying on what worked for somebody else.
See im not sure how to measure it. I am assuming I have the bigger tall version hood only cause I accidently bought a taller air filter than what was on there before and it barely hits the top of the hood.
If I can get a suggestion of an intake that will give me the power I want and fit under a stock hood I will consider it.
Yes I think that that is the Tall version of the Turbo Hood. I would still measure what You have and go from there. There are quite a number of ways to measure everybody has there own. If You measure from the top of the Block in the forward end where the RTV goes across You can compare it to Drawings of popular Intake Mainfolds. Remove the Carb and put a Straight edge on the Carb surface leading forward and Use a Tape Measure and hook it into the RTV sealer. Another way is to put some puddy, ( Home Depot Electrical Dept) on top of Your Air Cleaner and close the Hood. This will let You know what You have now. There are endless combinations of Air Cleaners and such that You will probably find some Combinations that work on the Stock 73-78 hood here and should be OK with Your Hood. If You do end up with a Intack thats to high and no Air Cleaner combo will clear You can always machine some off the Carb Surface. The more You Machine off the More HP You loose but hey it will fit. Generaly a Aluminum Duel Plane Intake is best for the Street and thats what You have Stock. An aftermarket will make more HP but its not going to be a night and day diffrence.
thanks for the advice!! I recently got headers installed on my car and it felt like a night and day difference and I was hoping changing the intake manifold will give me such a jolt one might say.

Try not to expect too much, or your going to be disappointed. An intake change will be a very minor change.
The only way you'll see much of a difference is if you change carbs at the same time, and your current carb wasn't working very well.
