Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
It was early spring when I was young and dumb, comming home from Grandma's house going down a nice straight blacktop road, I decided to blow the cobbs out of the car. Ran the car up and was cruzing after a few miles, I noticed a car closing on me so I let off the gas, as soon as I did the lights came on. Trooper came up to the car, and asked me if I was trying to see how fast I could go, I replied, " No sir, just blowing the cobbs out, I know how fast it will go" The trooper said I covered the mile in a little less than 30 seconds, If it hadnt been for my Wife and child in the car, the trooper said he should take me to jail. Anything faster than 30 miles over the limit is automatic jail. My wife started crying, I guess the trooper felt sorry for her, and since I was honest with him, he gave me a break, and put 89 in a 60 zone. That ticket still cost the hell out of me, but at least I didn't to jail time.
Learned my lesson though. Only time I go over 100 is on the track now.
P.S. this was done in a FORD.
Like I said at the top, I was young and dumb.
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
Thirty years of driving a 435 hp car and my worst ticket is.....42 in a 35. That is the truth...I swear it. And, I'll never admit I've driven at over 140 mph....
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
My worst was when I owned a '93 MR2 Turbo Coupe. I was on a two lane Wisconsin road passing people like a moron. Speeds of 90+ mph in a 55 zone. I came up on three cars in a line and decided to pass so I pulled into the left lane and started to pass. Went passed the first two cars and the last car in the row got pissed and speed up and won't let me back in. I looked up and saw a car in the distance so I had to make a quick decision. Pass or merge behind. Feeling cocky I floored it and tried to pass. Well, the car that I was head on with was a Wisconsin state trooper! I realized this when I just barley made it back into the lane without hitting the trooper or the car in the right lane! It was a close call and I was flyin'. The trooper's lights came on instantly and I've never seen a police car turn around so fast, it was like the movies. I pulled over before he was behind me. He asked me to step out of the car and I was ready to go to jail. He was pretty cool about the whole thing considering I almost put him in the ditch. He clocked me at around 89 mph but only gave me 75 mph ticket after I explained how I got hung out to dry and had to make a choice and I made the wrong choice.
I don't drove like that anymore and I'm glad I didn't hurt anyone. :yesnod:

Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (Metal_Wulf)
Easy....135 in a 55 at 2:00 in the morning. Just finished tuning up my '73 Z-28 and wanted to see if it would pull top rpm's in high gear (it did!). I was on a seldom traveled section of I-12 in LA. I saw the cop sitting under the overpass and held it down until I passed him....then slowly started backing off the throttle and gently applying the brakes. He didn't even move until he saw my brake lights come on. I was standing outside of the car when he pulled up behind me. He first comment....why in h_ll did you stop? I explained what I was doing and wanted to know how fast I was running (can't always believe factory spedo's). We talked for a half hour or so before he told me to get lost and don't try that stunt again.
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
None vette story. Was heading to the other side of the state in my old Eagle Summit, or Valley as I liked to call it, when I got pulled over for doing 83 in a 70, cop was cool and let me go. Told him I usual drive under 80 but just got the car and was used to using cruise control which actual is true. Funny thing is on the way back that same day I was tired and I got popped doing 83 again. I told the officer I was really trying to keep my speed down but was tired and told her about being pulled over doing exactly the same speed in the morning. She let me go too. Should have bought a lotto ticket that day:)
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
105 in a 45 zone! Nice cop; gave me a ticket for 60 mph and told me to slow down. He turned around and I floored it! Got to the next town and a trooper pulled me over even though I wasnt speeding. He said: "Son, its 22 miles from where you were last ticketed to this spot and it only took you 15 minutes to get here! I sunk slowly into the seat! No ticket though, it would have been hearsay. Whew!
Actually got 4 at one time. Was street racing in a stripped down, full bodied 69 SS Chevelle. This thing was tubbed, ladderbar rearend, roll bar, racing seat and harnesses, etc. ....oh yeah, and a full roller 468 BB with a Holley 1050 Dominator on nitrous.
Ticket 1. 112 in a 40 mph zone.
Ticket 2. Illegal exhaust. Uncapped headers
Ticket 3. Improper start.
Ticket 4. Reckless driving, obviously doing 112 in a 40.
I was 18 and stupid. Glad I lived to outgrow that phase.
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
1) This past winter I Had been at a garage working on my Vette and was headed home. I was pulling out on to a road (In my Mustang GT) when a car was coming up fast on my rear. So I downshifted punched it and when I got to about 90MPH the lights came on. Long story short I tried to sweet talk her but no luck! 80 in a 55! PAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MAX
2) 200K in a 45K adjacent to the leaning tower of PISA, Italy. It was 0430 in the morning and I was on the way to day shift (MP) My luck the Carabinieri (policeman) remembered me from a TA we worked about a month prior, so no ticket I bought him a Cafe the next time I saw him!!!!MAX
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
Where do I begin?
93 in 65 in Tenn, on way to NMCA Drags in Memphis. Was doing over 100 just prior to getting clocked. Trooper asked where I was going, told him. I was in my truck, he asked "You goin there to race?" He was cool.
81 in 45, 1978 Trans Am. Going around my favorite curve in Creve Ceour, IL. State police coming at me the other way with lights and siren. He was on way to another call. He showed up at my door 5 days later with my citation. He was good, had me right down to the color of sunglasses I was wearing.
83 in 55 in IL.
Too many others to list, most 10 - 15 over in town when younger. 15 total in my driving career.
Funny thing is, I issue them now. Been a deputy for 3 years now, if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em!!! I patrol the largest county in IL (land wise anyway, 1200 square miles), lots of room to open the squad up a bit. I love going to calls with lights and siren, I can finally do 120mph legally (that's all the Ford Police Interceptors with a large lightbar on top are good for, if you can say a Ford is good for anything) And yes, I have a high tolerance level for speeders, unless they are putting the rest of the motoring public in danger. Always cooperate with whoever pulls you over, it can help you out in the long run!
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (ACLR810)
ACLR810, Have you ever had one of the LS1 350 Caprice patroll cars? I heard you guys would really love to have them back. It seems jusridictions have chosen the Crown Vic over the Caprice LS1. Much to the shagrin of the patrolmen.
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
Back in 1979, I think, I met a Sheriff at the top of a hill traveling in the opposite direction. I was doing 130+ in my 68 Mustang w/428 Police Interceptor motor with two Carter four barrels & headers. I pulled over. He asked me if I was in a hurry, I replied " I was, now I guess I'll be late". When we walked back to his cruiser he asked "Is your door unlocked?". In all the excitement he had locked himself out of his car! He told me not to let him catch me doing this again and let me go. I drove away while he radioed, with his hand-held, a local cop to come out with a slimjim. I saw him at a McDonalds 3 weeks later and he told me that was the second time he'd done that.
One night in my 1972 454 Chevelle SS I....... well maybe I better save this story for later. I think I can still go to jail for this one.
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
My most ridiculous was “exhibition of acceleration” when I pulled out in front of a cop in my small west Texas hometown and chirped a tire in my 1974 Ford Maverick Grabber. Had a couple of “contesting speed” back then too - those would have sucked too - if I hadn‘t won the races. :D :D :D
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (Jvette73)
I would love more than anything to have a Chevy patrol car with an LS1. The only reason you see mostly Crown Vic's is becasue Chevrolet (in their infinite wisdom) stopped making the Caprice. What a mistake that was, it was the best cop car ever, I had one with teh LT1 in it upto 140 once and it had more left in it. Now they make an Impala police car, no comparison. I hear Dodge is jumping back with a Police version of the Intrepid, it's not bad, but I hear in a few years they are going to make it with a V8 and rear wheel drive! That would kick azz. th Crown Vic's aren't bad on the top end, not very good out of the hole though. Plus, it's still a Ford.
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (Jvette73)
Oops thats right, I goofed. I said LS1. I meant the LT1 Caprice. I heard they were good cars and many were sorry to see them go. They do still have a few in service here In AA co. I think.
Re: What was your worst speeding ticket? (shotgun_000)
Worst? Reckless Driving. That was about 15 years ago. SOmething like 85 in a 35 - on my Birthday too! Oh, there was another one where he said he clocked me at 115 in a 65, but only wrote me up for 90. ;) Those were the days - back when I still had "Flash", my limited edition Flash Red Laser XT Turbo w/ the stick shift. :yesnod:
So far (knock on wood) only vette ticket I got was a few weeks ago - in my yellow C4. He wrote me up for no front plate though. Gotta love that!
