1976 Side Exhaust

btw the tabs may need adjusted/bent when installing, and i love having them on there, they sound great, but they've burned every single passenger i've ever carried in the car. every 1 of them.
How many married passengers have they burned?

I am sorry, really, I am, but I just could not resist..........

I played around with the position of the cover to make sure the pipe and muffler are completely concealed. I think it looks "not so good" when the muffler/pipe hang below the cover.

I spent MANY hours (as you did) getting it all to look the way I wanted it to.

Glad you posted this. I haven't installed my fiberglass covers yet but I can see the front will need trimming to get the cover to fit up to the door properly. I thought maybe I was the only one who has run into this problem.
Keep adjusting the manifold bolts (manifold to flared end of pipe).
I have them (pipes) really tight now and they actually are starting to look like they belong there. They should hug the body parallel.
Don't trim your covers until you have those pipes where they need to be.
I made some cuts on the driver's side that I did not have to make at all on the passenger's side. In fact, I may be in the market for a driver's side cover as it's starting to bother me.
Body cuts. Yes, you need to cut your body to fit the covers and pipes in.
It is what it is, drink a beer and get it over with.
I now have both pipes in place. This will freeze this section of the mods as I now have to concentrate on a few engine details and start sourcing my bumpers. I need to get this thing sprayed in the Spring so I can drive it!!
I had Mike make my pipes for shorty ram headers. When they arrived they were WAAAyyy too long. I cut them to the length I needed in order to tuck them up against the frame/rocker. I then took them to a local muffler shop and had the guys expand the tube out so that the collector fit tight. I then welded the header flange directly to the pipe and bolted it to the headers. I used a jack to level out the pipes and had a small spacer in place while I tacked everything in place. Once it was tacked, I removed the jack and made sure I was clear. My pipes are probably 1/4" lower in the front than the back where it connects w/ the rubber washers. But, it is tucked under the factory cover all the way. You cannot see any of the pipe, even if you bend down and look under the car. I have 2.5" pipes so I did have to trim the bracket that holds the cover to the frame in the front. I did not want that rattling around.
