I'm just want to understand if my 3.55 is noticeably quicker or slower during acceleration than say the 3.70 or 3.36. I'm a bit of a novice on rear ends (cars that is) and seeking knowledge on the topic.
I think 3:55 is about ideal. I wish I had one. My '69 L71 came with a 4:11 and that was much too low. Had access to a 3:08 and installed that. It was too high. I should mention, this is with a Keisler TKO 5-spd., which has a little to do with it.
Not much diff. in my opinion, I doubt you would notice a seat of the pants difference moving up to 3.70 or down to 3.36 vs. 3.55.
It would have to be a 4.10 or a 3.08 I think to really tell a difference.
I went from a 3.08 to a 3.55 and the difference was very noticable, night and day noticable. This was a 350 HP 302 with a super T-10 4 speed. This is about a 15% difference. in other words it "feels" like 15% more rear wheel torque plus you get into the powerband of the cam faster and jump back into it faster after a shift. Car feels much quicker in every way. That said a change from 3.55 to 3.36 or 3.70 is probably going to be less noticable. Your talking 5-7%.
